William F. Sabia Sr.
William F. Sabia Sr., 80, of Phoenixville,
formerly of Ambler, died Jan. 27 in Phoenixville , Hospital,
Phoenixville.
Born in Philadelphia, he was
the son of the late Dominic and Elizabeth Dull Sabia.
Mr. Sabia served in the U.S. Navy from 1943
to 1946 in the Asiatic, Pacific and China Theaters and in the European
and African Campaigns.
Mr. Sabia served on the
Wissahickon School Board for two terms from 1961 to 1973 and served as
president of the board in the early 1970s.
He was instrumental in the
building of the Wissahickon High School in 1962 and the
Mattison Avenue Elementary School in 1966.
He served on the operating
committee of the North Montco Vocational Technical School from 1965 to
1972.
Mr. Sabia taught blueprint
reading to apprentice brick layers at Dobbins Vo- Tech School in
Philadelphia.
He was an avid Phillies fan.
He was an estimator/project
manager, employed by James D. Morrissey Contractors from 1972 to 1991,
D'Angelo Brothers Contractors from 1966 to 1972 and McCloskey Builders
from 1949 to 1964, all in Philadelphia.
Mr. Sabia was a member of
St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ambler, where he served on many
committees over many years.
He was also a member of the
William Bolton Dixon American Legion Post 10 in Fort Washington and
Men of Malvern for 50 years.
He was the husband of the
late Elia M. "Nina" (Colussi) Sabia who died in 2001.
Mr. Sabia is survived by a
son, William F. (Mona) Sabia Jr. of Phoenixville; two daughters Nina
E. (Bill) Smoyer of Phoenixville and Nancy L. Sabia of Phoenixville;
six grandchildren; two brothers, Michael Sabia of Lafayette Hill and
Donald Sabia of Haddonfield, N.J.; and a sister, Elizabeth Podlaski of
Ocean View, N.J.
He was preceded in death by
a daughter, Jayne M. Fletcher of Phoenixville and a brother, John. J.
Sabia.
A funeral Mass was
celebrated Jan. 31 at St. Joseph's Church, Ambler.
Interment was in Holy
Sepulchre Cemetery in Cheltenham.
