Mary Gallagher Velten

Mary Gallagher Velten of Ambler died Jan. 6, 2004, in the Ambler Rest Center after a long' illness. She was 84. 

Born in Philadelphia Nov. 2, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Anna (McEnroe) Gallagher. Mrs. Velten was pre­ceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Velten Sr. in 2002. She was a graduate of John W. Hallahan Catholic High School in Philadelphia, Class of 1938, and was a member of the alumni association. She worked as a sales associate at the former Ambler Fashion Shop for many years. 

Mrs. Velten was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church and i the Ladies' Guild and was a former member of the St. Anthony's Bridge Marathon and the Bridge Club. She loved her association with the Golden Girls.               

She loved to sew and was a  fabulous baker.         

After her husband retired, the couple lived in Cape May for 10 years before returning to Ambler in 1992.

Mrs. Velten is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Gilman of Plymouth Meeting; a son, Joseph L. Jr. of Warminster; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was also predeceased by a sister, Helen Gallagher Mechlenborg.  

Relatives and friends may call Jan. 12 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Epiphany of Our Lord Church, J Walton and Township Line roads, I Plymouth Meeting, with a funeral Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Monsignor Stephen P. McHenry, pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Ambler.

Remembrances in her name may be made to the St. Anthony Church Rebuilding Fund, 259 Forest Ave., Ambler, PA 19002.
