Michael Doherty

Michael Doherty of Maple Glen died peacefully on December 3, 2006 surrounded by his loving and devoted family after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma.  Beloved husband for 51 years to Georgina (nee Doughall).  Loving father of Dr. Michael Doherty and his wife Dr. Marilyn Doherty, John Doherty and his wife Sharon, Irene Tomaszewski and her husband Bob, Georgina Zhang and her husband Matt, Geraldine Bond and her husband Arthur, Edward Doherty, Kevin Doherty and Colette Macort and her husband Barry.    Loving Pop Pop of Blake, Bridget, Mike, Devin, Sean, Shannon, Erin, Kimberly, Fallon, Leo and Luke.  Survived by his brother Eddie Doherty in Ireland, his sister Margaret Collier in England, sister in law Mary Rose Maletta and brother in law John Doughall in addition to many nieces and nephews here and in Ireland and England.  Proceeded in death by his brothers John and Phil, sisters Ann and Bea. 

Michael was born in County Sligo Ireland Son of the late Edward and Annie Doherty. He served in the British Air Force before moving to the United States.  His lifelong career, as a store manager in the furniture business, began with 30 years at J.B.Van Scivers and continued with 20 years at Steven’s Furniture from where he retired.  In his retirement Michael enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and entertaining his grandchildren with stories about his childhood in Ireland and his travels with the British Air Force.  Michael will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 

Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday (12-8-2006) from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Anton B. Urban Funeral Home, 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike Ambler, PA and Saturday 9:45 to 10:30 AM at St. Alphonsus Church, Conwell Drive, Maple Glen, PA followed by a  Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM.  Interment will be at  St. John Neumann Cemetery.
