Robert A.
Hoffman, Jr., passed away on May 10, 2006 following a
courageous battle with cancer.
He was born
December 22, 1928 in Harrisburg, PA, to the late Robert A.
and Kathryn Hope Hoffman. After graduation from William
Penn High School, Harrisburg, PA in 1946, Bob enlisted in
the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon completion of boot camp at
Parris Island, SC, he served honorably in the Marines for 2
years. He achieved the rank of Sergeant before his
honorable discharge in 1948. In 1952, Bob graduated from
Bucknell University, with a Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration. He was an active brother of Kappa Sigma
fraternity during his time at Bucknell.
On June 25th,
1952, he was united in marriage to Teresa J. Belsak in
Steelton, PA. Bob and Terri first moved to Bethlehem, PA,
where he began a very successful 30-year career working for
Bethlehem Steel Corporation in sales. In 1958, he and Terri
moved to Ambler, PA, where they remained in the same family
home for nearly 45 years. Upon retirement from Bethlehem
Steel in 1982, Bob continued his sales career with numerous
other companies, including Atlantic Steel in Philadelphia,
PA, and Clemens Family Markets.
Bob was a very
active member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic parish in
Ambler. He made religion an integral part of his life,
whether singing in the church choir or serving for several
decades as a Co-captain of Malvern. He always focused his
efforts on helping others. For over 50 years Bob pursued
one of his other true passions; golfing with friends and
family, as an active member at Old York Road Country Club.
Bob is
survived by his wife of 53 years, Terri; his son and his
wife, Robert A. and Nancy Hoffman III; his daughter and her
husband, Maryanne and John Mogensen; his son and his wife,
Patrick and Stacey; his son and his wife, Chris and Krissy;
and by nine grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass
for Robert A. Hoffman, Jr. will be held at 10:30 am, Monday,
15 May, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 259 Forest
Ave. The Rev. Msgr. Stephen P. McHenry, Pastor, will
officiate. Internment will follow at St. John Neumann
Catholic Cemetery. Relatives and friends are welcome at the
church from 9 am on, until the hour of services.
In lieu of
flowers, the family asks donations be made in Bob’s name to
the St. Anthony’s Memorial Fund 259 Forest Ave. Ambler, Pa.
