James J. Nelson

James J. Nelson, Sr. a retired Financial Executive died Tuesday December 5, 2006 at Bryn Mawr Hospital. A resident of Maple Glen, PA for 38 years he and his wife moved to St. David’s in 1999. 

A Graduate of St. Joseph’s Prep and St. Joseph’s University class of 1942, as a Navy veteran of WWII, he was a communications specialist serving aboard the USS Dixie and the USS E.A. Poe in the Pacific Theater of Operation. He remained in the Naval reserve until 1952. 

In the business world, he was treasurer of Lehigh Coal & Navigation in Bethlehem, PA until 1960 when he became associated with Jerrold Electronics Corporation a division of General Instrument of New York City. Jerrold was one of the pioneers of the Cable TV, which was founded by former PA Governor Milton Shapp. As corporate secretary, he negotiated contracts throughout the US for the expansion of their products and the building of CATV Systems. He subsequently worked to interest banks and other lending institutions in financing such systems based on Jerrold’s and his knowledge of the industry. 

He was a founding member of St. Alphonsus Church in Maple Glen and was active with the Catholic Charities Appeal; He was Volunteer with 40+ years in Philadelphia (An executive placement service in Phila. an avid sports fan and die hard University of Notre Dame fan. 

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Regina “Jeanne” (Nee Fee) Nelson his children James F. (Beverly) Nelson, Jr. of E. Norriton, Marianne (Jerry) Dean of Villanova, Brian P. Nelson of Cave Creek, AZ., Gerard F. Nelson of Glenside and was preceded in death by a son Thomas C. Nelson in 1972. He is also survived by his 3 grandchildren. 

Relatives and friends are invited to call Sunday 6:00 to 8:00 PM at The Anton B. Urban Funeral 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike Ambler, PA and Monday 10:00 to 11:00 AM at St. Alphonsus Church Conwell Drive Maple Glen with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Remembrances in his name to the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation,1E. Wacker Drive Chicago, IL. 60601-1905 would be appreciated.
