Hetty Edwards

Hetty Edwards (nee Douglass) age 81, died on December 13, 2007, formerly of Plymouth Meeting, PA,  after many years with Alzheimer’s disease. She was the wife of the late James H. Edwards, Jr., (d. 2002) to whom she was married for 52 years, daughter of the late Samuel and Olga Douglass, Mother of Carol Edwards (fiancé Glenn F. Schreiber, DMD) and James H. Edwards, III (Treacy). She was also Mom-mom of James H. IV, Rebecca, and Theodore Edwards, sister of Catherine Engel (the late Robert), Arthur Douglass (Marion), and Richard Douglass (the late Patricia), Sister-in-law of Mabel Douglass (the late August) and Elizabeth (William) Rice. She was also predeceased by brothers Samuel, John, Albert, Walter, and Robert, and sister Olga Wesler and survived by many nieces and nephews. 

She was a long time sales associate of Strawbridge & Clothier at Plymouth Meeting, and recipient of multiple STAR awards for outstanding customer service. She volunteered with Colonial Neighborhood Council Meals-on-Wheels, and was an American Red Cross 5-gallon blood donor. 

Interment will be private. Relatives, friends, and associates are invited to attend her memorial service on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at 11:00 a.m., at the Chapel of the Dock Woods Community, just off Detweiler Rd. in Lansdale (directions at http://www.dockwoods.com/pages/local.html). Friends may call starting at 10:30 a.m.  

Rather than flowers, the family prefers contributions to The Dock Woods Community Foundation (please write “Nursing Staff Scholarship Fund” on the memo line), 275 Dock Drive, Lansdale, PA 19446, to benefit the nursing aides who provided such fine care over the past five years, OR,  to Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania (please write “ADC” on the memo line), Penn Alzheimer’s Disease Center, 3615 Chestnut St., Room 212, Philadelphia, PA 19104, to support Alzheimer’s research.
