Earl F. Johnston

Earl F. Johnston, 85, died Monday at his home in the Ambler section of Upper Dublin Twp. after an illness. 

Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Charles and Margaret (nee McClerkin) Johnston.  

He served in the Army as a Surgical Technician from 1943 until 1945. 

He was a Machine Shop Manager, employed by Microcom in Warminster, PA for 22 years prior to his retirement in 1989.  After retiring Earl worked as a Crossing Guard for Upper Dublin Twp. at Upper Dublin High School and Maple Glen Elementary School until 2006. 

Mr. Johnston was a 52 year life active member of the Wissahickon Fire Company having served as Assistant Fire Chief, Chief Engineer and Vice President.  He also served in the Wissahickon Fire Police Unit and held the rank of Lieutenant. He was also a member of Fort Washington Masonic Lodge # 308 and the American Legion Post # 945. 

He is survived by his Wife Nancy (nee Davidson) Johnston and his sons Robert W. (Fran) Johnston of Palm Harbor, FL, Wayne B. (Joyce) Johnston of North Wales, PA and Charles E. (Kathy) Johnston of Newport, DE. He is the loving grandfather of 6 grandchildren and brother of Edith Codrick of Oreland, PA and Anne Sickels of Philadelphia, PA. 

Relatives and friends may call  from 8:30-10:30 AM Saturday, November 17, 2007  at  the  Anton B. Urban Funeral Home 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike, Ambler, with a Funeral Service  at 10:30 AM with  Rev. Thomas Byron officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Somerton, Bucks County, PA. 

Remembrances in his name to the Wissahickon Fire Company 245 E. Race Street Ambler, PA 19002 OR the Wissahickon Hospice 1 Presidential Blvd. Suite 125 Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004 would be appreciated by the family.
