Edward M. May, Jr

Edward M. May, Jr., 86 of Blue Bell formerly of Maple Glen, PA.  died Monday in the Hahnemann University Hospital Philadelphia, PA. after a brief stay.

Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Edward M. Sr. and Theresa (nee Matthews) May.  

He was a graduate of the Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy in 1943 and Washington University, St. Louis in 1950 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He served in the US Naval Reserve as a CIC Officer and Squadron Electronics Officer from 1950 through 1966.

He worked as an Electronics Engineer for a number of companies including RCA, NASA, AT&T, IBM and the General Electric Space Division prior to his retirement in 1988. His professional accomplishments include participation on the design and development of the radar device guiding Apollo 11's landing on the moon.

Mr. May was a 40 year member of St. Alphonsus Church in Maple Glen.

He is beloved husband of Kathryn E. "Betty" (nee Mullen) May and the devoted father of Milissa M. (Thomas M.) Tadeo of Bala Cynwyd, Edward M. (Debra Ashley) May, III of Waldorf, MD, Bernardine Vanderslice of Columbia, MD, John F. "Jack"(Lisa) May of Malvern, PA. and Joseph G. (Debra) May of Berwyn, PA. He is the loving grandfather of Jacqueline, Lauren, Michael, Edward IV, Ashley, Jenna, Christina, Joseph & Kristen. He is also survived by his sister Mary Smith  of Wilmington, DE. and was pre deceased by his sisters Anna Rita Caulfield and Edna Cush, and Brother John F. May.

Relatives and Friends may call Friday June 6, 2008  from 10:00 to 11:00 AM St. Alphonsus Church 33 Conwell Drive Maple Glen, PA 19002 with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham.
