James "Jim" Kunkel of Dresher passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, June 29th. He was the loving father of Brett & Ashley Kunkel.
He grew up in Ivyland. He was the son of Lauretta Kunkel & John Kunkel. He is also survived by his sister Cecelia Farkas (Frank). He was preceded in death by his brother Alan. He is survived by several nieces & nephews and their families.
Jim was a graduate of William Tennent High School, class of 1978 and was a member of the wresting team. He went on to graduate from Widener University with a degree in Accounting. While at Widener, he played on the Rugby team and was an active member of his fraternity, Alpha Sigma Phi, serving as President.
Jim dearly loved his children and they were his first love. You would always see Jim on the sidelines of one of Brett's games or in the auditorium for one of Ashley's cheerleading competitions or dance recitals.
He was a dedicated father & coach. He spent many years with the Horsham Hawks Football Organization as a coach & Treasurer. Jim also coached baseball & softball for the Ambler Baseball Association. Most recently, Jim was a loyal member of the Upper Dublin High School Football Boosters Club.
He loved to read, especially history. He was also an avid Eagles & Phillies fan having held season tickets for both teams.
Jim loved to entertain. He would regularly host summer parties and team socials. He graciously opened up his home for holiday gatherings and always invited military member whose families were out of town. He reached out to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Family & friends are invited to call after 10:30 AM on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the Urban Funeral Home 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike, Ambler, PA. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 PM. Interment will be immediately following the service in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheltenham, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory for the children's college fund may be made to Brett & Ashley Kunkel College Fund c/o Florence Viman, PNC Wealth Management, 1600 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
I just found out about Jim's passing in June, I had no idea or I would have attended his service. My deepest regrets to his children and the rest of his family and friends.
Jim was a great guy and just a good person. I played football with Jim for many years and had the utmost respect for him.
He will be missed.

We are very sad to hear of Jim's passing. Courtney and Ashley have been friends since first grade and Jim was a very devoted father. He was always there as a "one of the Dads" of the school frends.
We know how much Ashley and Brett loved and admired him.
We will miss him very much

“Our family has been with Urban funeral Home for close to 30 years. My Grandmother, Aunt, In laws and most recently Mom have had their funeral handled by Urban. My mother specifically requested Skip & Dolores handle her funeral. We were in good hands from beginning to end. Peter and Trudy are wonderful. My thanks to all the Urbans.”
