Marybeth Oakes Barba, 86, of Fort Washington, PA and Cape May Point, NJ, died on May 9, 2017. Her spouse of 53 years, Milton B. (Buz) Barba predeceased her in 2005. She was a graduate of Chestnut Hill College, class of 1952. In 1995, Marybeth retired from her longtime position as a guidance counselor at Mount St. Joseph's Academy in Flourtown, PA, after 25 years of service to young women. She is survived by her beloved family: two sons, Thomas M. Barba (Linda) of Churchton, Maryland and Philip D. Barba (Ellen) of Harleysville, PA, 3 grandchildren, Matthew L. Barba (Kaitlyn) of Boston, MA, Dr. Susan E. Barba of Washington, DC, and Kathryn R. Barba of Arlington, VA. She is also survived by her brother, John Fielding Oakes (Judy) of Lakewood Ranch, Florida, her sister-in-law, Marie Oakes O'Connor, and by many devoted nieces and nephews, including those of her deceased brother, Thomas W. Oakes, Jr., and her deceased sister, Nancy Nocton Oakes Straub. Marybeth enjoyed restoring her colonial era home in Fort Washington, volunteering her time for youth, and through her guidance counseling work, touching the lives of so many of the region's future women leaders. She was always grateful to hear of their successful lives in their communities. She also enjoyed many wonderful years with many good friends and family in Cape May, NJ.

“Our family has been with Urban funeral Home for close to 30 years. My Grandmother, Aunt, In laws and most recently Mom have had their funeral handled by Urban. My mother specifically requested Skip & Dolores handle her funeral. We were in good hands from beginning to end. Peter and Trudy are wonderful. My thanks to all the Urbans.”
