Carmen A. Piccone, 75 of Ambler PA., died Sunday in the Lankenau Hospital Wynnewood, PA. after a brief illness.
Born in South Philadelphia, PA.( 8-19-1929), he was the son of the late Antonio and the late Philomena (nee Friozzi) Piccone.
He was a graduate of South Philadelphia High Class of 1948 where he lettered in four sports and was inducted into the South Philadelphia Hall of Fame, Temple University undergraduate in 1952 where he was a star quarterback and Captain of the Football team. He received his Masters degree in 1957 from Southern Illinois University. Carmen had a long and distinguished coaching and scouting career at both the college and professional level. He held positions with Southern Illinois University, VMI (Virginia Military Institute) Cornell University, Trenton State University, The USFL, New Orleans Saints and the Philadelphia Eagles. Although Carmen traveled extensively with his various positions throughout his career, his most cherished time was spent with his immediate and extended family. As a coach, teacher and mentor for over 50 years, he influenced the lives of many young adults and was passionate about the importance of sportsmanship and character.
He was an avid fisherman and boater, and felt as comfortable on the water as he did on the football field. His humor and enthusiasm for life made him memorable person. Carmen's most precious treasure was his wife of 53 years, Dotty.
Mr. Piccone was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Ambler and the NFL.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy M. (nee Procino) Piccone of Ambler; two sons, Marc A. (Heather) Piccone of Ambler, Scott S. (Susie) Piccone of West Hartford, CT; two brothers, Vincent R. (Marge) Piccone of Voorhees, NJ, Robert A. (Beverly) Piccone of Rockville, MD; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his Sister Gloria Price
Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday from 8:00 to 10:00 AM at the Anton B. Urban Funeral Home 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike, Ambler, with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph's Church, Ambler with Rev. Daniel Cavanaugh Pastor as Celebrant. Interment will be in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont.
