Dr. Lawrence Vincent Hofmann, 78, of Charlottesville, Va. formerly of Canton, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday July 7, 2021. He was born in Allentown, Pa. on August 22, 1942 to the late Charles E. Hofmann, Jr. and Lois Deacon Hofmann and grew up in Philadelphia. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Suzanne, and his brother, Phillip.
He was a graduate of Jenkintown High School, St. Joseph's University, and Thomas Jefferson Medical School. Following completion of his education, Larry was a beloved pediatrician who over his long career helped countless children and families, especially in Canton Ohio where he lived for 32 years. He also served in the U.S. Public Health Service and for numerous volunteer organizations, but those who knew Larry would say that what he considered to be his greatest contribution to the world were the children he raised with his wife, Honey.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor "Honey" Pfister Hofmann, and by their children: Lawrence "Rusty" Hofmann, Jr. (Amy), Carol Hofmann Davis (Timothy), Anne Elizabeth Hofmann, and John Phillip Hofmann (Sharon). He is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Hayden, Baylor, Grady, Riley, Brady, Ruby, Lynne, Jonathan, Teddy, Charlotte, and William. He is also survived by five siblings and their families.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Church of the Incarnation on Monday July 19, 2021 at 12:15 pm. Honey and family,
Many fond memories of Larry beginning in HS.
Our team played against his HS team, then we met up at St. Joe's as freshman!
Wonderful person and teammate. He always seemed at peace and had it all together. Many folks looked up to him. Tireless worker in the classroom and on the court! Everyone's best friend.
When St. Ignatius Loyola founded the Jesuits over 500 years ago, Larry must have been with him when they made the list of the foundation principles:
1. strive for excellence
2. seek the Magis......the more, the greater good.
3. Be a person with and for others.
4. Find your God in all peoples and things.
God Bless and thanks for the memories,
Everything from our first meeting, to the cemetery and certificates, thank you cards, flower arrangements, church and obituary were handled in a professional manner. No pressure, no hype with compassion and complete attention to detail.
The Urban Family provides compassionate and professional guidance throughout the funeral planning, the services and for months to follow. Their attention to detail offers family and friends comfort in knowing nothing will be overlooked. Our family greatly appreciates their kindness during our recent loss.
“Our family has been with Urban funeral Home for close to 30 years. My Grandmother, Aunt, In laws and most recently Mom have had their funeral handled by Urban. My mother specifically requested Skip & Dolores handle her funeral. We were in good hands from beginning to end. Peter and Trudy are wonderful. My thanks to all the Urbans.”
