The Urban Funeral Home is proud to announce Skip Urban, of the Anton B. Urban Funeral Home was the recipient of the Lower Gwynedd Township’s 2013 Citizen of the Year Award that was presented by the Lower Gwynedd Township Supervisors at the Volunteer Appreciation Banquet held on November 21st at the William Penn Inn. Skip was also named the Citizen of the Week in the December 8th issue of the Montgomery Newspaper’s, Ambler Gazette.
Amongst many volunteer positions, Skip has passionately served as a volunteer for the Wissahickon Fire Company of Ambler for over 38 years. His desire to serve the community is evident in the many organizations both locally and nationally that benefited from Skip’s readiness to volunteer his services as both a firefighter, and professionally as a Funeral Director. The LGT Manager, Larry Comunale and Chair of the Board of Supervisors, Kathleen Hunsicker expressed their gratitude for all the Volunteers in the community. They summarized, that the volunteers are invaluable to the success of a well run township and without them the cost to the township would be significant.
During Skip’s words of acceptance at the Lower Gwynedd Township Volunteer Banquet he chose the word avocation to describe his drive for Firefighting. He reminded the attendees that he does not do this alone. He thanked the township for recognizing his efforts, yet accepted the award on behalf of all the good men and women who volunteer their time and skills to the Wissahickon Fire Company. “To recognize one is to recognize us all. We are a team. We are family.” said Skip. The Wissahickon Fire Company has many local men and women who proudly volunteer to protect the residence of Lower Gwynedd Township, the Borough of Ambler, and our surrounding communities.
Respectfully, The Urban Family
